Often when sailing the seven skies, after the captain has finally shut up or gone rum drunk to bed, out come the speakers and on come the tunes. I grab myself 2 bottles of rum, one for me and one for Bongadille, and we sit back and let the party begin.
These are my Top 5 albums so far for 2016!
1 – THE BENNIES – WISDOM MACHINE
Beast’s Beast of the album: Corruption
What a cracker of an album! Doesn’t matter what time of the day it is or what you are doing, you put this album on and you are going to be partying!!! It moves from super party, to psychedelic, to reggae, to doom and then to sexy brass that’ll make any wench shiver at the knees, and that’s just the first song. The S.S. Plunderberg definitely flies high in the sky when we listen to this one.
2 – FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE – KING
Beast’s Beast of the album: And The Vulture Beholds
Being long time fans of both spaghetti and FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, I was highly anticipating what these crazy Italians would do next with the release of KING. I was unsure whether they could top their previous masterpieces, but HOLY POOP! They have raised the benchmark so high for ferocious, symphonic death metal with this release. The song writing, playing technicality, epicness and production is as majestic as it gets in every way possible. If only they did beer bongs and shoeys as they played.
3 – KATATONIA – THE FALL OF HEARTS
Beast’s Beast of the album: Takeover
This is the album I put on after a three day bender of partying with the crew. The time when everyone is waking up on that final day, bodies scrambled on the deck, wishing the sun would go back to bed, put on this new KATATONIA album and BOOM! Party started again! With awesome vocal harmonies from start to finish, I more then often find myself singing along to every song. Depending on how much we have had to drink, Bongadille usually helps fill out the choruses.
4 – THE SCHOENBERG AUTOMATON – APUS
Beast’s Beast of the album: Master of Obsolescence Pt. 1
If I was doing a list for top 5 funniest dudes in bands, all 5 of them would be on that list. But regardless of the long history of partying between our two bands, the 2016 release of APUS is a monster. Honestly, these are some of the best guitar riffs I have ever heard. Everything about this album is a massive step up putting them on the world stage, compared to sharing the local Barra Bar stage in Brisbane.
5 – HATEBREED – THE CONCRETE CONFESSIONAL
Beast’s Beast of the album: Looking Down The Barrel of Today
I must admit, I’ve always had a soft spot for Hatebreed as they were the first international metal band I ever saw live when they opened for Slipknot in 2005. This new album is one of those albums that just gets me pumped and ready to kick ass! Before you know it you will be on your 5th bottle and 5th listen through, now screaming along to all the words. The S.S. Plunderberg also drives faster when this album is on.
DRINK UP & PARTY TIMES AHOY!
